History was made this afternoon in Guyana as the 10th parliament met to decide on the fate of an annual subvention to the government’s propaganda arms Gina and NCN.
OneVoice News Network reporters along with thousands of Guyanese in the diaspora keenly monitored today’s session of parliament on benshopradio.com. The opposition with a slim majority of 1, voted unanimously in favor of amending the budget. The AFC and APNU opposition parties stared the corrupt PPPC party courageously in the face and proved to Guyanese citizens all around the world that it was possible for them to find common ground to do the people’s business.
The combined opposition today voted to allocate $1Gy to both NCN and Gina cutting hundreds of millions of dollars in annual subsidies from the government’s most prolific propaganda arm. NCN is free today to continue to fund its ill-fated propaganda excursions; but not at the taxpayers’ expense. It is important to note, that these cuts were made after 4 days of negotiation between the opposition and the government representatives. The PPPC government representatives dug in and refused any effort at compromise, going so far as to arbitrarily pull programming from the only tv station in Linden; an opposition stronghold, while continuing to make programming available to their core constituents in Berbice, Guyana.
Although, the PPPC reported today that the subvention accounts for payments of salaries for approximately 30% of the workforce; there are reports that NCN generates enough revenue to cover the costs for around 90% of their current operations. OneVoice News Network expects that the PPPC will spitefully take this opportunity to very publicly lay-off workers; a move which is unnecessary if they choose to run their operations more efficiently. But today, they have been soundly defeated and royally embarrassed and their vindictiveness is imminent. The scorpion must do what is in his nature to do, employees will pay.
The joint opposition made the citizens of Guyana proud today. They fired a warning shot across the bow of the corrupt SSS PPPC luxury liner with their courageous vote today. It will do the PPPC well to refocus on the taxpayers; to remember that the taxpayers are suffering, that the taxpayers want relief and that the taxpayers want an end to 19 years of corruption and abuse. The citizens of Guyana want the PPPC to govern in a just and fair manner, they want openness and transparency, they want better roads, clean water, good healthcare, a quality education system, more jobs, reliable and affordable electricity and a reduction in crime. OneVoice urges the PPPC to remember the people.
OneVoice News wishes to offer some free advice to the “big wigs” at NCN. In order to immediately save costs without affecting employee headcount, we encourage the fat cat managers at NCN to cut the super salaries of fat cat “big wigs” immediately; to remind Michael Gordon to use resources with caution and not report on foolish stories like, “Red House Gets a cheque today valuing 3 hundred pounds” and other, random, meaningless initiatives that benefit the “Jagan research centre.” We also urge them to stop sending production representatives from NCN and GINA to all assignments using three different vehicles, three different sets of camera men, and reporters from both organizations to cover the same story. The savings from the salaries and the gas alone will allow them to operate more efficiently.
Today, the AFC and APNU supporters can be proud of their parliamentary representatives. Today the citizens look forward to a new, free, fair, democratic and progressive Guyana. Today, change has come to Guyana. (Taken from OneVoice Guyana News)
