-probe underway![]() An investigation has been launched by the regional authorities in Region One after in excess of $10M from the region’s current finances was reported missing on Monday. Reports are that officials from the Audit Office are in the Mabaruma sub-region auditing the accounts of the administration and during checks of the region’s expenditure for this year several cheques and an undisclosed sum of money were discovered missing. Regional Chairman Fermin Singh told Stabroek News yesterday that an investigation into the incident is on-going. The fraud was discovered in the administration’s sub-treasury unit by the auditors. Sources in the region noted yesterday that most of the sums missing are owed to business persons at Mabaruma who are contracted by the region to supply goods and services. |
