Mr. Corbin, it is time to move on

Dear Mr. Rober Corbin,

I read with disgust your remarks in Kaiwteur News dated Saturday August 28 about the 90,000 labtops/computers promised by Jagdeo.  I am completely baffled at what you said and I must say that such remarks can only serve to strenghten Jagdeo deceitful and barefaced actions. First of all, as leader of the opposition, you should know that Jagdeo's promise to distribute 90,000 computers is an election ploy and you should have been the first person to point this out to the Guyanese people and exposed his deceptiveness. It is a ploy by Jagdeo to win votes for the PPP. You should also let Jagdeo know that he cannot fool the people with his false and fake promises. The distribution of the computers will be done in five years, so you should inform the public that if the PPP wins the election, this promise will not be kept. Two, who are the poor families and who will identify them? The answer is Jagdeo and his racist PPP regime will. Again, I say to you Mr. Corbin that Jagdeo will distribute a mere 1000 computers to black families and 89,000 to Indians, that is if the promise is kept.

Three, there are approximately 456,000 poor families in Guyana so what good will 90,000 computers do for the poor families who can barely afford electricity or get a good meal for their children. Also, surges in power and constant blackouts will damage the computers beyond repairs because the poor families cannot afford the electronic devices needed to protect the computers. Four, a strong and powerful opposition leader will vigorously opposed this infantile and inept plan to deceive the people on the eve of elections by telling the public that the 90,000 computers will better serve the poor people of Guyana if they are placed in the 2000 plus public schools and libraries in the country where a vast majority of Guyanese can have access to them instead of the mere 90,000. Such egocentric policy not only exposes the high level of incompetence exhibited by the little dictators, but also reveals that they have no brains because they are walking on their heads. These egg heads dictators are intellectually bankrupt and foolish to the point of no return that they do not even have one ounce of common sense left for them to think.  And you Mr. Corbin is no different, in fact, your role as leader of the opposition is pathetic, to say the least.

Mr. Corbin, if you have not lost your mind, then it is time for you to stand up and condemn Jagdeo’s racist policies, which have totally marginalized and enslaved Afro-Guyanese. For your information, the marginalization and denial of a race equal opportunities is called apartheid, and this is what is being openly practiced in Guyana by the Jagdeo racist regime. And this is allowed to manifest because of the weakness shown by you and the PNC. It appears as though you and members of the PNC are afraid to confront Jagdeo. To add insult to injury, the no-brainer Jagdeo and his cohorts are going to different black villages including Linden, Buxton, and New Amsterdam etc. to meet blacks face to face and tell them about the PPP policies while you and members of the PNC are issuing press statements. Can't you see that something is wrong with this picture? The people need to see you in person and hear you and not read your remarks in the papers or see them on television. This is basic 101 politics. Why are you allowing this little boy from the lowest rated 10th tier Patrice Lulumba University to out-wit you? When are you going to put your forty years plus experience you claimed you have in politics to work effectively for your constituency? How long more blacks will have to endure torture and subgugation at the hands of the PPP regime before something is done?

Mr. Corbin, it is time for you to stand up and call a spade a spade. Now, on the other hand, if it is not within you to do so, or you think you ought to show Jagdeo some courtesy as president, then step aside as opposition leader and let others do it. Jagdeo does not deserve any courtesy mainly because of his racist policies. Everywhere I went in Guyana, from Corrivton to the various areas of Demerara all the way up to Bartica, Leguan and Lethem, etc. on the Essequibo Coast, Afro-Guyanese are fed-up, frustrated, and bursting in anger at your lacklustre leadership and they have placed the blame squarely at your shoulders for what the racist PPP regime is doing to them. The situation is worst all over Georgetown where many blacks are calling you a whimp and several others have claimed that you are in collaboration with Jagdeo. Still others have opined that you have allowed Jagdeo to place them in such calamity that it will take generations for them to reclaim their position. As leader of the opposition, you should not have allowed Jagdeo and his Indian cohorts to drive fear in blacks in Georgetown and Linden. After all, if you forgot, then let me remind you that Georgetown and Linden are the two most prominent strongholds of the PNC and loosing those means that the PNC will be lost as well. It should be clear that the PNC was born in Georgetown, the PNC has always owned Georgetown, and Georgetown has always voted in favor of the PNC. Plain and simple, Georgetown is PNC and PNC is Georgetown. Forbes Burnham must be terribly vexed and is croaking and turning in his grave for the grave and dangerous situation that you have allowed to happen to blacks in Georgetown, Linden and elsewhere while the Jagans are smiling happily in their tombs at Babu John for what the PPP is doing for Indians.

As leader of the opposition, you ought to be selfless and not selfish, strong and powerful and not weak and powerless, lead and not be led, stand up and fight the forces of evil, and not run and hide, speak up and not be silent, be courageous, exhibit your tenacity, mental and moral strength, display your ability to persevere in the face of danger or extreme difficulty, and the ingrained capacity for facing crisis with fortitude and resilience. These are some of the mettle good leaders are made of or should have in order to lead successfully. Simply put, a leader should be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice before he/she accepts that role. This is the traditional trade mark of a leader and it has not changed.

Mr. Corbin. I want to assure that this is not personal, rather it is the reality of the doom and gloom blacks faced in Guyana under your leadership and it ought to change sooner rather than later. I cannot stand idle and see the heartaches and the heavy burden that blacks have to bear from a racist regime and the opposition continues to remain silent. This is your race being destroyed in front of your eyes by the racist Jagdeo and the PPP and you go about your daily chores as if nothing is wrong. Again I repeat, apartheid is taking place in Guyana against blacks just as it was in South Africa under your leadership and if this is not wrong, then nothing is wrong. It has to stop now for tomorrow will be too late

It pains me to write such a letter but it even pains me more of what I saw happening to blacks during my visit to Guyana so I sincerely hope that you will view this as a reflection of what is taking place in Guyana and what blacks have to endure under your leadership. It is also for you to reflect and give serious thought about your leadership style and to what you envision for the party and the country as a whole. Blacks everywhere are convinced that the PNC cannot move forward and regain its popularity or reclaim its status under your leadership. Therefore, I urge you not to continue to strangle the party. The PNC like all other political parties is a political institution and no one should harbor the thought or belief that he/she is bigger than the party or put his/her personal ambition and interests ahead of the party. To do so is to create disaster. Everyone should be cognizant as to when their time has come to move on. Take note of the circumstances in a changing environment that needs much more vibrancy now that anytime in the history of Guyana. Also take note that the coming election is perhaps one of the most important in Guyana's history except for the 1964 election. All will be lost if the PNC or a coalition does not reclaim power from the PPP.
