Armed bandits stormed the Eccles Industrial Site early yesterday morning and after disarming and tying up security guards, broke into a business and escaped with computer monitors and cell phones. Up to press time last evening the six men, two of whom were armed with guns were still at large. Police said last evening that an investigation has been launched into the armed robbery which occurred at Telcoms Solutions Guy Inc, East Bank Demerara, during which two guards attached to a private security service were robbed of two 12-gauge shotguns and twenty matching cartridges.

Investigations, a statement said have so far revealed that the two armed guards from the private service and another guard attached to Telcom Solutions were on duty when they were held up by the group.

The armed men then took away the two shotguns after which, they along with the third guard were assaulted about their bodies and tied up. The armed gang, the release added then broke into Telecom Solutions and took away articles including computer monitors and cell phones after cutting phone lines and turning off the security cameras. They then escaped.

An official of the company when contacted said that she was not in a position to speak on the incident and that the company would not be speaking to the press.
This newspaper understands that Telecoms Solutions is a Digicel supplier.

Meanwhile, a guard who works the night shift at the site yesterday called for regular police patrols and more lights in the area. He explained that “black clothes” ranks are in the area during the day but there are none at nights.

According to him, the area has very poor lighting as there are many dark spots.

“Ah got to frighten in hey yes but ah got to wuk fuh a dolla. Ah don’t want to go and thief”, the man said adding that the incident occurred some distance away from his post.

During the ten years that he has been working in the area, his worksite has never been a target for bandits.

“If dey come ah gon tell dem fuh tek whatever dem want because dem man killin people these days”, he added.
