It was an intimate setting. A private cocktail reception at the RFA
Gallery in Harlem set the tone for the New York launch of Guyana
Fashion Weekend. Designer Sonia Noel was the gracious host for the
reception where media, business people and fashionestas got a chance
to be up close and personal with Ms. Noel discussing Guyana Fashion
Weekend, posing for photo ops and sipping cocktails amidst the
fabulous art in this upscale gallery. Gallery Director and curator
Ms.Paula Coleman was on hand for the exclusive reception.
While the meet and greet grew well into the night, guests were in awe
of the footage of Guyana Fashion Weekend 2009 that played on the large

moving to change their garments. The other models were: Athina James
`Miss Antigua Barbuda World/Universe 2008', legendary Trinidad model
Cleo Patten and Barbados’ Allison King who modeled in the first Guyana
Fashion Weekend in Guyana.

DeAbru were on hand, facilitated several media interviews and
photo-ops, as well as Paul Burnett who also showed his line `Blacque’
and styled the presentation. Among Ms Noel’s guests were New York

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
