God’s angels, a tragic suicide and a mother’s tears
Thursday, 26 March 2009
Freddie KissoonI once did an essay on this page titled, “God’s perfect children.” The point was that the PPP leaders in government were indeed God’s angels. You trace the governments that have been in power in all the continents over the past twenty years and you will find countless numbers whose leaders have on many occasions admitted to errors and have asked their respective nations for understanding.

Mr. Obama traveled to California last week to do just that in connection with the bonuses a bailed out company gave to its top brass with the money that was given to them by the state. Mr. Obama told the American people that he has taken responsibility for the contretemps.

Over the sixteen years it has been in power, the PPP Government has acquired the status of despicability that has made a majority of people in this land contemptuous of all of its leading cadres. The PPP knows that East Indians vote for them on ballot day and after that, there is no more connection.

East Indians vote against the PNC not for the PPP. I am an East Indian that has consistently lambasted the PPP Government and Mr. Jagdeo for semi-fascist directions yet I have not been frowned upon by East Indians in their communities whenever I travel to such places.

President Jagdeo got irritated at the PPP’s congress last August when he exclaimed that even some PPP supporters believe what I write. It is not that they believe what I write; it is that they see the evidence for themselves. Guyanese do not like the Government because of the barefaced and unbelievable nastiness that characterize the working of the Guyana Government.

These people are God’s perfect creatures because they tell themselves that they are doing no wrong at all when all over the land you see the egregiousness, corruption, immoralities, discrimination and bad things. Graphic cases of unspeakable dirtiness are most blatantly denied by all and sundry in the PPP.

Yet these people expect you to like them. They expect the private media to pay glowing tributes to them. What I find horrifying is that sexual misconduct that even fascist leaders in extreme dictatorships would not tolerate is never investigated. I am saying that if Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin or Franco was told that there was repeated sexual misconduct among their top people, they would have acted.

In the PPP Government, nothing shocks their leaders.

The one memory that will live with me was the suicide of a secretary to a long-serving political prince after 1992. This young, poor girl from a real deprived background was fooled and sexually manipulated. When the moment of discard came, she couldn’t take it. She committed suicide. Just one week before her death, she spoke to me about the sexual exploits. When this demon dies, I will name him in this column.

I will always remember the grief on the faces of her parents. This should not have happened. The PPP’s inner circle knew long before 1992 that this man was a serial exploiter of young girls. Today, he remains unpunished.

If this government loses the 2011 election, I will dedicate myself to crusade for the exposure of this monster. Look at the Canadian refugee claim which stated that he raped a 15-year-old from West Demerara who has since been granted asylum out of fear for her life. Even her mother is terrified that she may be killed.

If you want to see fear in the eyes of a human being, then talk to this lady about what she knows. This woman went down on her knees and begged me to leave her dwelling house when I went to speak to her.

She just wanted to be left alone. Tears were flowing down her eyes as she shied me away. The fear was over-powering. If this government loses the 2011 election, I will do all I can to see that this poor, humble soul gets justice.

I have lived through the PNC dictatorship. I saw trepidation on the faces, in the voices and eyes of countless victims of the PNC. But this mother’s image lacerated my psyche. I looked around her dwelling house and I saw the sparseness of the home. And I just felt the piercing power of angst. Was this what I gave all of my youthful days for?

In that lady’s eyes, I saw the futility of my radical youth. The mysterious dimension of PPP domination is why does it protect the decadent, the immoral, the depraved?

At some point, leaders of a government have to step in and say to its offending recidivists; “You are out of control, we cannot tolerate these excesses, you are embarrassing the Government.” Mrs. Jagan must act now!

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
