Seconds later, the same two individuals stormed into the post office, brandishing handguns and demanding that the workers and two civilians who were in the post office lie on the ground. Also present in the post office were two internal auditors who had gone to the facility to check on the accounts. “He ask of the auditors to open de f….ing door before he shoot somebody”. The audit clerk, according to the police, was assaulted about his body during the incident and was treated at the Georgetown Hospital and later sent away. The Guyana Post Office Corporation in a press statement said that the entity remained dedicated to its staff and customers. The release further said that the Corporation was assuring the public that it will continue to earnestly maintain the vital services it provides in a secure environment for staff and customers. The police are continuing with their investigations. A police source told this newspaper that the persons who attacked the post office were suspected to be part of a gang that is wreaking havoc on the East Bank.
