On Sunday, Mr. Jagdeo addressed those who attended the death anniversary programme of Dr. Cheddi Jagan. There were the expected eulogies of the PPP and how great it is. There was the usual dig at the media. But this time, President Jagdeo took an unusual departure in his criticism of the media. There were Freudian windmills spinning in his mind and they came to the surface. What Mr. Jagdeo could not consciously admit, he pronounced in a Freudian way. He told his Berbician listeners that the Government has critics whose arguments are alluring and sound attractive and that there is a battle out there between the Government and critics for their minds. There are no alluring criticism of Mr. Jagdeo and his government that sounds attractive from the private media.

There is no battle for the mind of Berbicians from the private media. What Mr. Jagdeo thinks is alluring and attractive arguments are simply a vivid depiction of sad, tragic but brutal reality in Guyana characterized by graphic facts and compelling truths.
This explains that for all the rosy picture he painted of his Government, Berbicians should know that Mr. Jagdeo will leave office as perhaps the only president in modern times that have refused to have a open, public debate with critics of his rule. And even if he is the PPP’s presidential candidate in 2011, he will not agree to a debate. What is he afraid of?
Why? Because he will not be able to reply to those alluring and attractive criticisms. What Mr. Jagdeo thinks are alluring and attractive criticisms against his government are the facts and the truths. Berbicians and Guyanese must be told of one hell of a weird situation going on with Mr. Jagdeo’s Government.
Very few persons who support Mr. Jagdeo’s Government are willing to openly embrace it.
How PPP leaders could speak so glowingly of their Government yet have to endure the shame their supporters show by absolutely refusing to public identify with it is unheard of around the world.
On Thursday, the Chronicle featured one full page of a column dedicated to extensive praise of the Government. Brace yourself for the shame PPP supporters show towards their leaders. The byline for this massive column was “Observer.”
Now here is someone defining how great the Government of Guyana is and hides his/her name. President Jagdeo is the Minister of Information, ultimately in charge of the Chronicle. How does he feel about that?
This writer was given data extracted from Yahoo Messenger in which two PPP youths one of whom are employed by the Office of the President and the other at the Ministry of Foreign Trade, discuss their payments from GINA for writing in the Chronicle under fictitious names and on pro-government blogs.
This is really interesting stuff. If you need a copy please contact me. I have given Adam Harris and Mark Benschop the tape. They refer to their other PPP colleagues who also write under anonymous names. Some very unflattering things were said about Mr. Jagdeo.
Do President Jagdeo and other PPP princes believe the glowing things they say about their own administration when such a superb regime cannot find bold embracers who are not ashamed to write on behalf of the Guyana Government?
Did Mr. Jagdeo and other PPP leaders notice how deserted Berbice has become? Last year three of us from UG went to East Berbice to attend the funeral of one of our union members - Jason Benjamin, the student leader and two of us from the workers’ union, the other being Mr. Khemraj Narine. Once we left the Berbice Bridge, we counted the abandoned homes.
Our count revealed that four out of every ten Berbice house have been left by those who have long gone. I don’t know how many persons went to the anniversary event but it took place at a time when Berbice is reeling from blackouts.
Are Berbicians so stupid that they would want to listen to a cabal that came up to address them that has been in power for near to 18 years yet cannot provide them with electricity? Did parents in the audience tell Mr. Jagdeo what conditions their children have to put up with at UG at Turkeyen? Did any member of the audience ask Jagdeo about his ten-year old presidency during which time Guysuco limped on and looks like it will die? Did anyone in the audience ask Jagdeo why Guyanese are running away to and facing humiliation in little Barbados?
Let’s hope Berbicians are people with commonsense.

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
