- Re-arrested for questioning on Allison, Waddell killings

Ex-policeman Lloyd Roberts who was charged with the murders of Romeo De Agrella and son Clint De Agrella yesterday had both charges discharged by Magistrate Allan Wilson. This newspaper was told that this resulted from the prosecution being unable to show the presiding Magistrate they could proceed with the matter. Ever since the beginning of the trial the prosecution had sought several adjournments. The prosecutors were granted their adjournments to figure out how to proceed after star witness Tyrone Da Silva when offering evidence against Roberts said he did not know the accused and that he was beaten to admit to knowing him. The prosecution was then faced with not having any evidence against Roberts since without Da Silva they had no case.

The Magistrate had also in one instance advised the prosecution to seek advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions. However, once again during another hearing yesterday the prosecution sought another adjournment. This prompted the Magistrate to discharge the matter.
Much to the surprise of anxious relatives who had flocked the courtroom, just as Roberts exited the court room he was re-arrested. This sparked commotion outside of the courtroom as relatives began screaming and crying.
Meanwhile this newspaper was told that Roberts was taken to Police Headquarters Eve Leary and subsequently sent to the Providence Station lock-ups.

In June last, 24-year-old Jerome Parkes of Grant Covent Garden, Lower Pomeroon, and Roberts, were charged separately for the murders of Clint and Romeo De Agrella. The two were accused of being part of a gang of men who allegedly murdered the De Agrellas between March 20 and 23 at Iron Punt, North West District. The police had also issued a wanted bulletin for another ex-policeman Sean Belfield called ‘Back-up’ whom they say is also being sought in connection with the murders. To date, the police have failed to locate Belfield.
The decomposing remains of Clint and Romeo De Agrella of Grant Strong Hope, Lower Pomeroon River, were found days after they failed to return home. Post mortem examinations revealed that they died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police, in a statement, had said that investigations revealed that the victims had left Venezuela and after not returning to Guyana as expected they were reported as missing on March 22. The statement said their bodies were found with gunshot wounds while their boat bore bullet holes. It was recovered without the outboard motor engine. The boat was found overturned in the Waini River by the occupants of a passing passenger vessel. It was subsequently pulled ashore.
