Benschop visits Sophia
Monday, 16 March 2009
Benschop visits Sophia The Guyana Police Force has once again started their politically motivated campaign against Afro-Guyanese. More recently they have raided the Sophia community and arrested over fifty (50) men and women for unknown crimes.. This form of injustice has prompted over one hundred mothers to invite the head of the Benschop Foundation and Leader of the Movement of Change for a better Guyana, Mr. Mark Benschop to visit the area and meet with the affected children. Mr. Benschop visited yesterday (Sunday) and spoke with over two hundred children about their rights and the PPP's intention to treat them as criminals. He said "it's time that we come together as a people, Indian or African and legally confront the PPP and the murderers within the Police Force...enought is enough, another raid in any African community would not be taken lightly..."

Benschop visits Sophia Mr. Benschop further stated that "the raids are racist and illegal and people have a right to confront the police when they are conducting illegal and unjustifiable raids one way or the other...people must stand up and defend their rights even with their last breath. We cannot stand by and allow a handful of policemen to intimidate us...they are out numbered and if we stand up for our rights only then will Jagdeo and Henry Greene would get the message."

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
