Sunday, 26 July 2009
Minister of Health- among two in custody
Police have detained a Buxton man who was wanted in connection with several murders and say that he given them a statement that implicates him and others in the torching of the Ministry of Health building. Kaieteur News understands that the man, known as ‘Kurt’ or ‘Glasses’ was arrested around 15:00 hrs yesterday in Sophia.
According to a source, under interrogation, the man has admitted to being part of a gang that committed several armed robberies and murders during the height of the 2002-2006 crime wave.
Police sources say that in a statement, the man also admitted that he and others set the fire that destroyed the historic Brickdam structure.
Kaieteur News was also told that police are questioning another man in connection with the Ministry’s fire, but have no tangible information from him.
On Friday, Police Commissioner Henry Greene said that two persons were in custody in connection with the probe. He added that five others are now wanted for questioning as “they may have information about who was responsible for the arson” that destroyed the $1B Ministry.
According to Greene, all of those arrested may not be directly involved but may have information, which can assist the police with the investigation.
Police officials had stated that they were seeking well-known personalities Archie Poole and Heston Bostwick to assist in investigations.
Bostwick turned himself in on Friday.

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America.
