Aleida Guevara and an everlasting hypocrisy |
|
Saturday, 25 July 2009 |
I have always felt that many, if not all, of the journalists to have interviewed Fidel Castro and his higher subordinates since he became a dictator in the mid-eighties lacked a deep familiarity with political theory and philosophy, thus they have not succeeded in embarrassing Castro on his long journey of tropical fascism.

Deadly trap, permanent prison |

I hardly get time to look at television. The internet may kill television for those who follow world events. You miss something that the newscast carries and you can still get it on video on the internet. In Guyana, the situation is different. Many of the local programmes are not repeated. I seldom see those talk-shows. I read a long letter by Tacuma Ogunseye on his interpretation of the politics of the PPP as adumbrated by Donald Ramotar during a discussion with Winston Murray on television.

|
Tuesday, 21 July 2009 |
During the reign of the PNC, the state-owned radio station (still state owned; still the only radio station in the land) hosted a nightly call-in programme, “Action Line” and a daily commentary, “Viewpoint.” Dr. Jagan, then Opposition Leader, would complain bitterly that he could not get his voice heard on Action Line and his protégés could not find a place on the Viewpoint roster.

That Ministry fire: Exploding and exposing myths |
|
Monday, 20 July 2009 |
One of the most poignant editorials I have read for this year was the one in last Saturday’s edition of this newspaper. Titled, “The fire and the halt to any investigation,” this is a critical viewpoint like the hundreds of thousands that have been printed in the newspapers since the PPP has been in power.
