It was at the last night of the wake that I heard that Prime Minister Sam Hinds was one of the persons paying tribute to Josh Ramsammy on the day of the funeral. At the wake, I spent a long time speaking to Parliamentarian Keith Scott, who had spent a long time with the Working People’s Alliance before he broke away. Had I known it was Keith who was in charge of preparing the programme for the funeral, I would have protested the Prime Minister’s inclusion; the reason being I believe that, given our friendship, Keith would have listened.

Can we understand, will we ever understand, what power does to rulers? More importantly, can we ever comprehend the nature of the PPP? Freedom House turned out in full force to celebrate the election victory of Barack Obama. The PPP leaders even hosted a symposium on his inauguration. This was confusion galore. Many persons are still in a mental daze about the PPP’s ecstasy over the presidency of Mr. Obama. Perplexing, mysterious, unfathomable, esoteric are words that come to mind.

He is a leader with an astute mind, great leadership skills, and concern for people’s well-being.”

The mockery of democracy goes on |

I did not take the time, for the purpose of this essay, to quote from the Mirror newspaper on the PPP’s reaction to the process whereby the then Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Keith Massiah left his position on the Bench and took up a partisan political appointment with the Cabinet under the presidency of Mr. Desmond Hoyte.

No one can deny that Caribbean economist, Norman Girvan, is a learned professor. He is a formidable economist and a scholar of regional fame. But like all human beings, he has his inexplicable moments. This is life. The strange things that people do that defy logic or are hard to understand will forever be present in human society.
