Who tried to kill Maria van Beek?
Friday, 17 April 2009
Freddie KissoonMy sympathy goes out to Mrs. Maria van Beek, her family and immediate relatives. I know what it is like to face death after being attacked for non-robbery reasons. In 2004, at 5.30 A.M. gunmen invaded my garage as I was about to drive out. I fled from their pointed guns.

What nonsense is this: Leave this poor woman alone
Thursday, 16 April 2009
Freddie KissoonSince when are we a caring nation? I must be living in another country. The young lady who lost two of her kids in the Hadfield Street fire, was known to me when I lived on Hadfield Street, Wortmanville. The inferno took place less than a block from where I lived.

The answers of Van West Charles
Tuesday, 14 April 2009
Freddie KissoonPolitics in Guyana will become even more curious, definitely tenser and naturally more enthralling when the son-in-law of the late President Forbes Burnham, Dr. Richard Van West Charles, returns home in a few days’ time. A PNC insider had whispered to me that Mr. Corbin favoured Dr. Charles.

Flying people
Tuesday, 14 April 2009
Freddie KissoonEach Easter Monday, my topic was the migration of the Guyanese people. I would write on the flying kites and the flying owners who would soar out of Guyana after they laid up their kites. I guess I have used up that particular discussion. However exhausted that subject is, it will not go away because people just keep leaving. When the CSME finally came up for ratification, I remember saying to myself that Barbados will get into nasty problems with Guyana. It is now happening.

We criticize the Government: What about the others?
Tuesday, 14 April 2009
Freddie KissoonIt is foolish to think that there is another institution that is powerful in a country as the State. The media, the business class, the trade unions are all formidable actors that can bring down hurricanes on the society but the State has no parallel. If the State gets out of control, society is doomed.

Minister Manickchand’s semantic evasion
Thursday, 09 April 2009
Freddie KissoonI do not read anything written by Minister Priya Manickchand. I don’t want to hear anything this lady has to say about the abuse of women by men. The attitude of this Minister to domestic abuse is appallingly hypocritical. Minister Manickchand’s stance on the complaints of President Jagdeo’s wife, Varshnie Singh, is shockingly poor for a country’s Minister who holds the portfolio that includes women’s rights.

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
