Democracy and Justice under assaukt from the Regime in power in Guyana
Monday, 27 July 2009
Troy Small, called CatsThe recent and mysterious death of a murder suspect while in State Custody, and just weeks after his so called confession statement was justifiably thrown out by the presiding Magistrate in his case, adds to and extends the ominous circumstances under which justice is being dispensed in Guyana in these days. We can recall when another suspect, one whose statement after his arrest was that he was drinking milk under the current regime as opposed to black tea under the former, also died under mysterious circumstances while in the custody of the state.

Letter to the Editor

Mark A. BenschopDear Editor,
As I read your editorial of Sunday 07/19/09, I could not help smiling ruefully to myself over the packaged appearance of the presentation. The automatic assumptions as usual, without any objective evidence in that direction, is that "they did it". "They" of course being persons the regime in power blames for everything, including sometimes, vissicitudes caused by the ravages of nature. It would seem that the Stabroeknews is still paying pennace for its deviation from the mean that triggered punitive reprisals from the powers that be, and is determined to make up for time lost by beating out a tune on its drums that gets back into synchrony with its traditional political melody.

Character assassination and President Jagdeo’s antics
Tuesday, 14 July 2009
Khemraj RamjattanDear Editor,
It is obvious that the message of the AFC, especially about the massive corruption of the Jagdeo Administration, is sinking in and biting our President deep. Instead of measuring up and dealing with these legitimate issues raised, President Jagdeo in keeping with his intractably undignified demeanour has seen fit to throw muck at our leaders and hope it will stick.

The PNCR’s August election for leader must be supervised by an independent observer
Tuesday, 14 July 2009
Rickford BurkeDear editor:
The June 28, 2009 election for chairman of Guyana’s opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Georgetown District, has been sullied by credible allegations of fraud. The party said that Ms. Volda Lawrence, a party vice chairman and supporter of party leader, Robert Corbin, in the ongoing leadership crisis, allegedly beat then chairman, Aubrey Norton, by 220 to 96 votes.

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
