Marginalization by any other name would appear just the same

Guyana MapThere is little doubt, at least in the opinion of the author and, perhaps, a wide cross section of Guyanese populace, that the deteriorating quality of Policing in Guyana can be directly linked to the quality of the political leadership that Guyana has been laboring under over the past 17 years. The Guyana Police Force was once a preeminent law enforcement organization, with abilities and members that were the envy of many Caribbean Commonwealth territories. Its officers were continuously being recruited to train or head the Police Departments of several island territories.

Security measures at magistrates’ homes should be physical and electronic
Saturday, 25 April 2009
DEAR EDITOR,
Let me first state that I am in support for any increase in security which will reduce the incidence in crime.
However, I am following this story in the newspapers since it happened. In your article in the Tuesday 21st April, 2009 issue, you showed a photograph of Magistrate Hawke’s home and in the photo you showed the area where the culprit might have entered the house. Furthermore, it was stated that the area where the culprit entered was not secured. If that was so, it means that it might have been a lapse in security on the magistrate’s part.

Mission Statement

The Mark Benschop Foundation was officially launched in March 2008 by its founder and chairman Mark Benschop and other concerned Guyanese and well wishers in the United States of America. What started as a small operation geared toward helping those in need has grown so large that they were forced to move their offices to a whole building in East Street where the vast amount of people responding to their generosity  could be accommodated.
