The reaction to the recent anti illegal immigration policies by the Government of Barbados from the PPP infatuated punditry was as can be expected. Vituperative, shallow, facetious, the usual rancorous noise designed to obfuscate truth and reality. We witnessed the same response to the report of the UN independent expert on minorities.

Discrimination in media ownership amount to grave injustice anywhere |

By Robin Williams Dear Editor, I thought about ignoring Rajendra Bissessar’s response to my letter which he captioned “The Press is Used to impose Cultural Hegemony over the minds of the working class”. However, his call for my linking his criticism of imperialist and colonialist historical control of the means of information with the current hegemony over certain aspects of media in Guyana to invoke criticism is childish, petulant, and utterly ridiculous. In the first place Mr. Bissessar you are an individual, not a group of people.

Dear Editor, The statement “he who pays the piper calls the tune” by Carvil Duncan, Chairman, Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana, in his May Day address is deserving of attention. Duncan made this reference in support of the government unjustified withdrawal of the Critchlow Labour College’s subvention.

Trade unions at the crossroads |
|
Friday, 22 May 2009 |
Dear Editor, Labour is at a serious crossroad. Some labour unions have succumbed to restriction and others are struggling to maintain their liberty. Solidarity, the bedrock of trade unionism has different meaning to different people. Some unions have aligned with government, ignoring its transgression of the working class just to survive and get a few handouts. Then there are the unions who seem still committed to their membership by remaining independent of government control.

The Automated attacks on African freedoms and rights |

Wednesday, 20 May 2009 |
By Robin Williams Dear Editor, Before putting this discussion on group suffering to rest, I wish to respond to two points raised by two authors subsequent to my initial letter. One is presented by Vishnu Bisram, and the other by Kowlasar Misir. Bisram states that nothing in his letter implied that Slavery and Indentureship were identical, and it was not his intention to suggest thus. Mr. Misir scolds that it is equally prejudicial to dismiss the parallels that existed between the two historical events.
