We must take action now and stop the PPP's victimization |

Dear Editor,
Inaction in Freddie’s firing will inevitably lead to more victimization-TAKE ACTION NOW
If people in Guyana, especially the stakeholders at UG, do not take drastic action now in the form of boycotting classes, petitions and demonstrations and Freddie’s firing simmers down and blows over, more heads are going to roll in the days to come. The government is testing the waters to see how much they can get away with. Such blatant discrimination must be opposed immediately. Meetings and statements are not going to get results. These hypocrites are going to let people have their say, but they are going to have their way. This did not just start; it was happening for over five decades.

Classes suspended at UG due to massive protest |
|
Tuesday, 31 January 2012 |
|
By Latoya Giles (taken from the KN)
Classes at the University of Guyana are expected to be suspended until further notice as plans are apace for mass protest today at the Turkeyen Campus. Yesterday the leading figures in “Operation Rescue UG” which comprises students, workers and academics, spoke to a packed audience in the George Walcott Lecture Theatre yesterday, outlining a series of issues which they are fighting for. The purpose of the meeting was to urge the UG community to come out in support of the closing down of the University until the demands of staff and students are met. These demands include contract renewal for Freddie Kissoon and Vincent Alexander.

The biggest obstacle to democracy is the PPP |

By Malcolm Harripaul An examination and analysis of GECOM’s declared results of the 2011 elections would show that that close to 25% of the traditional PPP supporters either voted against the regime or stayed at home. Given my own observations of low voter turnout in PPP strongholds on election day, and now my access to GECOM’s hard copy Statement of Polls, I do believe that a much greater number of Indo Guyanese either stayed home or voted against the PPP.

These demons in the PPP can't take criticisms |

By Wazir Ali
Fellow Guyanese like many other concerned Brothers and Sisters I have been monitoring the situation in our home land especially since after the November 28th Elections. Having said that we as a nation should not take anything for granted from this Communist PPP Regime. I tell you why I say this, look what is happening right now. The continuing of Corruptions, Obstruction of justice by the DPP (Director of public prosecution Shalimar Hack), putting square pegs in round holes as to the appointment of Ministers. The firing of Freddie Kissoon and so on. What a big shame. Gail Texeria, Prem Misir, Luncheon as bareface as he is and the rest of these incompetent PPP cronies are still carrying on with what Jagdeo wants Ramotar to do. After all Ramotar did say that he will continue where Jagdeo left off. This is nastiness, spiteful, vindicative and immature. How low can we get. These demons in the PPP cannot take constructive criticisms.

AFC Message of Condolence on the death of Robert Williams
The Alliance For Change wishes to extend its deepest condolence to the family and relatives of Robert Williams, the Mayor and City Council and the Guyana Elections Commission.
It is with deep regret that we learnt of his passing early this morning.
Robert Williams gave diligent service to the city of Georgetown especially through trying times, serving as Deputy Mayor, a position he held for over a decade and Chairman of Municipality’s Finance Committee. His sterling contributions to the work of the Guyana Elections Commission where he served as a Commissioner for many years will forever be remembered.
His passing is a great loss to the city and to the entire Guyana

They feel comfortable enough to do it: The Freddie Kissoon Firing |
|
Friday, 27 January 2012 |
|
By David Hinds And finally they did it. They feel comfortable enough to do it. The decision by the University Council of the University of Guyana to fire Freddie Kissoon is the most recent brazen act presided over by the Donald Ramotar-led PPP administration. It is the latest reminder of how far away from the democratic norm the PPP has taken Guyana. To those in the media and the so-called Civil Society who have been hollering at the APNU youth to get off the streets and allow the country to get back to normal, this is what a normal Guyana governed by the PPP looks like. To the political majority, this is what we get in exchange for cooperating with and legitimizing a minority one-party executive. The majority of the Guyanese voters said no to one-party rule. Their leaders' read it differently. They settle for opposition status. They permit the PPP to proceed as if it is the majority. Prior to the election the PPP’s 55% behaved like 100%. Now 48% is behaving like 100%. Freddie is the latest victim of this normalcy PPP style. Others will follow. (Dr. Hinds will be co-hosting"Straight Up" this evening with Mark Benschop, on Benschop Radio from 9pm (Guyana time)
