A United States of America citizen is convinced that the Barbadian Immigration authorities are targeting Guyanese despite assurances by Prime Minister, David Thompson, that the island is only interested in ridding the country of illegal immigrants. Ingrid David, a Guyanese by birth, arrived on the island yesterday with her American daughter to spend a three-week holiday with relatives.

An overseas-based Guyanese who was shot by and killed by an undercover officer in Brooklyn just over a week ago was laid to rest yesterday amid concerns about the manner in which he died. Shem Walker, an army veteran, was reportedly shot during a struggle with the officer in front of his family home at Clinton Hill. Reports say that Walker spotted the undercover policeman in front of the home and chased him, believing that he was a drug dealer when a fight broke out.

Self-confessed drug dealer, Peter Morgan, is to appear before Senior Judge Edward R. Korman on September 10, where he will know just how many years he will serve behind bars. According to court records, that is the day set for sentencing. Two years after drug agents seized him in Trinidad and extradited him to the United States, the Guyanese auto dealer and race car driver, on June 8, accepted a plea bargain to charges of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, and to distribute the controlled substance in the United States.

During the reign of the PNC, the state-owned radio station (still state owned; still the only radio station in the land) hosted a nightly call-in programme, “Action Line” and a daily commentary, “Viewpoint.” Dr. Jagan, then Opposition Leader, would complain bitterly that he could not get his voice heard on Action Line and his protégés could not find a place on the Viewpoint roster.

Trade Unionists, Norris Witter and Lincoln Lewis, along with Social Activist, Mark Benschop continued their protest on Friday last. The trio spent a considerable length of time in front of the Ministry of Home Affairs, daring the police to arrest them. Part of their bail agreement was to report to the Brickdam Police Station, the two veteran Trade Unionists kept their appointment.

Police yesterday recovered two more Molotov cocktails (channa bombs), this time in the compound of the Ministry of Works facility on the Kingston Railway Embankment. They were discovered by an employee who was carrying out some cleaning works near the western fence of the compound.

The Chief Spokesperson for the International Labor Organization, Sir Roy Trotman recently met with his colleague Trade Unionists and Social Activist, Mark Benschop. Witter and Lewis spoke of the human rights violation of workers' rights and concerning the conditions at the Brickdam lockups.
